We draft legislation that directly impacts the community, and the people within it.

We work to educate legislative and congressional members on these issues. understanding the legislative process for change is no easy task;
Minnesota Justice Coalition provides boots on the ground, and real ideas and action to accomplish this mission. Some of the Issues we work on are: Criminal Justice Reform, Restorative Justice, Police Reform, Civil Rights, and Human Rights.

LEGAL

Our organization brings the legal profession, and skills to navigate the legal system.

We provide non-litigatory services for affected family members around issues of criminal Justice, Police Misconduct, case preparation, and organization.

We also help with FOIA request as part of this process, and provide a direction for families.

We have community partners and access to different kinds of resources to support or mission of Healing through Justice.

LEGAL CLINIC

Our expungment clinic has a focus on providing rehabilitated community members a way to seek redress from the Court to seal there criminal record.

As part of this process we explore pragmatic solutions working with the prosecutors office to expedite certain expungements that are allowed under Minnesota statue to be fast tracked.

Restorative Justice

In 1974, the Minnesota Legislature declared: That it is the policy of the State of Minnesota to encourage, and contribute to the rehabilitation of criminal offenders, and to assist them in the resumption of the responsibilities of citizenship. The opportunity to secure employment or to pursue, practice, or engage in a meaningful, and profitable trade, occupation, vocation, profession or business is essential to the rehabilitation, and the resumption of the responsibilities of citizenship.

Minnesota Justice Coalition agrees with this direction and works to advance a Restorative Justice Policy that holds true to this declaration.

The Minnesota Justice Coalition builds coalitions, and partnerships to combat injustice and racial inequality. We believe that we have a duty to speak truth to power and educate the community, and allies in this fight. Whether it be in our schools or our government institutions we must be a voice for the voiceless, and a consciousness that insures that Transparency, Accountability, and Justice are the cornerstones of progress.
